Our autonomic nervous system is unconscious and operates without our awareness. The sympathetic (fight/flight) and parasympathetic (rest/digest) networks are involuntarily reacting to our external environment and thoughts. When our nervous system isn’t regulating or in balance, we can experience chronic stress. This mindful exercise is a tool I regularly use to strengthen my ability to create calm and contentment in my mind and body, helping me regulate my nervous system and feel balanced once more.
